The Monarch Cement Company and Evergy Energy Solutions announced their partnership on a groundbreaking solar project that is anticipated to serve as a model for the cement industry’s use of renewable energy.
With the capacity to generate 20 MW of clean electricity, the project is designed to offset a significant portion of Monarch’s energy consumption, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The solar project will be strategically located on Monarch’s property at 1311 Florida Road in Humboldt, Kansas. It will pair state-of-the-art solar panels with cutting-edge energy management technology. It also showcases both organisations’ dedication to corporate social responsibility and sustainability and addresses the growing demand for cleaner energy alternatives.
“The Board of Directors and Management of The Monarch Cement Company are extremely excited about this win-win venture where we are making a giant movement toward achieving our 2050 carbon neutrality goals, being socially responsible, and providing a more than significant return on investment to our shareholders”, said Kent A. Webber, President of The Monarch Cement Company. “Evergy Energy Solutions has done an incredible job of leading and providing solutions at every obstacle. We couldn’t be happier with Evergy Energy Solutions performance, professionalism, and command of the subject.”
“This collaboration signifies our shared commitment to fostering a sustainable energy landscape”, said Travis Young of Evergy Energy Solutions. “By leveraging our expertise in renewable energy development, we are excited to contribute to Monarch’s sustainability journey and drive positive environmental impact.”
Evergy Energy Solutions is Evergy’s non-regulated provider of commercial solar energy. It sits outside of Evergy’s residential and business utility service and does not have an impact on customer rates. However, Evergy Energy Solutions does align with Evergy’s goal of providing affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy by helping businesses in Kansas and Missouri design and install solar energy systems to meet their energy savings goals.
This solar project highlights the potential for businesses to integrate renewable energy solutions seamlessly into their operations, supporting the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future. The project is anticipated to serve as a model for other businesses on making a positive environmental impact without compromising operational efficiency.
The ceremony for the 20 MW solar project is scheduled for Spring 2024. Representatives from both organisations, local officials, and environmental advocates will gather to celebrate this step toward a greener and more sustainable future.
